The emblem of Kalidale

The Chronicler's Primer

A short guide to what everything here means, and what we are building together.

What Kalidale is
One person's world — kept here by the people who love it.

Kalidale is a world that one person created: its own characters, houses, history and lore. This site is not where that world was made, and it is not run by its creator.

What this archive does is gather everything we can find about Kalidale into one place — the characters and the families they belong to, the world lore, and the conversations members have about it. The aim is a full, tidy record of the world rather than a pile of scattered notes, so that anyone curious can walk in and find the answer.

This is a fan-made archive. It is unofficial, nothing here is official canon, and where the original source and our notes disagree, the original source is right.

Player characters and relatives
The difference that confuses newcomers most.

A player character

Someone's own hero — the figure they play and write about. A player character gets a full page of their own: portrait and artwork, title, an Order, a written story, and a place where other members can comment and react. They show up in Characters.

A relative in a family tree

Everyone else in a bloodline: parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, spouses. They give a house its history and depth, but they don't carry a full character page and they don't crowd the Characters list. If a relative later becomes someone's played hero, they can be raised to a player character.

Houses and family trees
How bloodlines are drawn and joined.

Start a tree for your character's house and add their kin. You can drag a line between two cards to say who is a parent, a child or a sibling. Aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents work themselves out from those links — you never have to name them.

Marriages usually just need a name typed in. If the partner already exists in the archive, you can link them instead, and then that person belongs to two houses: the one they were born into and the one they married into. You can also pick two characters and ask how they are related.

The eight Orders
Every character may belong to one of the Orders of Kalidale.
Gold Order

Guardians of relics and important sites

Black Order

Special Ops and Vanguard Scouts

Red Order insigniaRed Order

Front-line marines

White Order

Healers and magic tinkerers

Purple Order

Tacticians, leaders, and organizers

Green Order

Rangers and Scouts

Blue Order

Logistics, Naval and Air operators, inventors

Grey Order

The rank and file of the Armed Forces of Kalidale

A character does not need an Order — leave it empty if it doesn't fit them.

What waits for the archivist
So the archive stays tidy and free of spam.
Appears straight away
  • Forum conversations and replies
  • Comments and reactions on anything
  • Relatives you add inside your own family tree
Waits for approval
  • A new player character
  • A new family tree
  • A new world lore page
  • Raising a relative to a player character
  • Changes to a character that is already in the archive

You can edit your own characters whenever you like; the changes are shown to the archivist side by side before they go live.

Being a good chronicler
A few habits that keep this pleasant.

Write about other people's characters with respect, and ask before tying your bloodline into theirs. Reactions are there to cheer each other on.

If something is rude or out of place, use the report button on it and write a short reason. Reports go straight to the archivist — nobody else sees them.
